About the Proficiency Award

A Proficiency Award (PA) is a program requiring fewer than 16 semester units and is approved by the Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD) Board of Trustees. Content and assessment standards for PA shall ensure that these programs are consistent with the District Colleges’ mission, meet a demonstrated need that leads to employability, are feasible, and adhere to guidelines on academic achievement. 

Requirements for the Proficiency Award

To earn a Proficiency Award, a student must:

  1. Complete all applicable coursework in a Board-approved Proficiency Award with a grade of “C” or better or “P” (formerly “CR”) in each course.
  2. Apply for the Proficiency Award through the appropriate college office granting the award.

Note: Proficiency Awards are not state-approved and therefore cannot be recorded on a student's transcript.
