Advanced Placement Examinations for Moorpark Programs
Moorpark College faculty has determined passing scores and, when appropriate, certification areas for General Education and course equivalency of Advanced Placement (AP) examinations as provided below.
- A score of 3 or higher (except where noted in parenthesis) is required to grant credit for GE and/or major for Moorpark College programs.
- An acceptable AP score equates to either 3-semester units for GE certification purposes, except where noted otherwise.
- Students will not receive credit for Standard Level exams.
- Students who have earned credit for an AP exam should not take a comparable college course because credit will not be granted for both.
- Credits awarded for AP exams shall not impact a student’s GPA.
- Units granted for AP exams will not be subject to the unit limits for Credit for Prior Learning or Pass/No Pass grading which otherwise apply within the district.
- Credits acquired by AP exams are not counted in determining the 12-semester units in residence at the granting institution required for an Associate Degree.
The list was approved by MC Curriculum Committee on 2/15/2022.

Advanced Placement Examinations for CSU GE-Breadth
Advanced Placement (AP) standardized exams are designed to measure how well a student has mastered the content and skills of AP courses.
The California State University (CSU) faculty has determined passing scores and, when appropriate, certification areas (for General Education Breadth and United States History, Constitution, and American Ideals) for CSU-approved standardized external examinations. The list is included below and may also be found online on the Cal State AP website. Each campus in the CSU system determines how it will apply external examinations toward credit in the major. For students not already certified in GE (General Education) and/orAmerican Institutions, the campus also determines how to apply credit from such exams toward the local degree requirement.

These units count toward eligibility for admission. The units may not all apply toward certification of the corresponding GE-Breadth area. See Executive Orders 1036 and 1100 for details.
- 2
Areas of GE Breadth (A1 through E) are defined in EO 1100. Areas of American Institutions (US-1 through US-3) are set forth in Sections IA and IB of EO 1061, and at assist.org. Numerical subcategories for Area D were removed and no longer apply effective 4/11/2018 but are provided for historical reference.
- 3
Students seeking certification in GE Breadth prior to transfer must have passed the test before this date.
- 4
If a student passes more than one AP exam in calculus or computer science, only one examination may be applied to the baccalaureate.
- 5
Students who pass AP Environmental Science earn 4 units of credit. Tests prior to Fall 2009 may apply to either B1+B3 or B2+B3 of GE Breadth. Fall of 2009 or later, those credits may only apply to B1+B3.
- 6
If a student passes more than one AP exam in physics, only six units of credit may be applied to the baccalaureate, and only four units of credit may be applied to a certification in GE Breadth.

Advanced Placement Examinations for UC Transfer and IGETC
Students who earn scores of 3 or higher on the College Board Advanced Placement (AP) examinations will receive credit toward graduation. The individual UC campus will determine how each AP exam will be awarded and applied in meeting major, elective, and/or graduation requirements. Refer to their catalog, website, and/or ASSIST website for more information.
Rules for Using AP Scores Credit for Transfer and IGETC
- An acceptable AP score for IGETC equates to either 3 semester or 4 quarter units for certification purposes.
- Each AP exam may be applied to one GE area as satisfying one course requirement, with the exception of Language other than English (LOTE of IGETC). (See Section 10.6.3 of IGETC Standards for more information).
- Students who have earned credit from an AP exam should not take a comparable college course because transfer credit will not be granted for both.
- There is no equivalent AP exam for the Critical Thinking/Composition (IGETC 1B/CSU GE-Breadth A3) requirement.
- Students earning scores of 3, 4, or 5 in the physical and biological science AP examinations earn credit toward IGETC Area 5 and meet the laboratory activity requirement.
- AP exams in Biology, Chemistry, Physics 1, Physics 2, or Physics B allow CCC campuses to apply 4 semester or 5 quarter units to IGETC certification
- AP exams in Environmental Science Physics C: Mechanics, and Physics C: Electricity/Magnetism, 3 semester or 4 quarter units are applied for IGETC certification; therefore, students who complete these exams will be required to complete at least 4 semester or 5 quarter units to satisfy the minimum required units for Area 5.
- AB subscore on Calculus BC exam: Students who take the Calculus BC examination and earn a subscore of 3 or higher on the Calculus AB portion will receive 4 quarter units for the Calculus AB examination, even if they do not receive a score of 3 or higher on the BC examination (note that the maximum credit awarded for both exams is 8 quarter units.
- Music Theory subscore: UC will grant credit for the full Music Theory exam only. Students who earn only a subscore will not receive exam credit.
