About the Proficiency Award

Proficiency Awards (PA) are Career Technical Education (CTE) programs with fewer than 16 semester units and are approved by the Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD) Board of Trustees. Content and assessment standards for Proficiency Awards shall ensure that these programs are consistent with the District Colleges’ mission, meet a demonstrated need that leads to employability, are feasible, and adhere to guidelines on academic achievement. 

Requirements for the Proficiency Award

To earn a Proficiency Award, a student must:

  1. Complete all applicable major coursework in a VCCCD Board-approved Proficiency Award with a grade of “C” or better or “P” in each course.
  2. There is no residency requirement for the Proficiency Award.
  3. Apply for the Proficiency Award through the appropriate college office granting the award.

Note: Proficiency Awards are not state-approved and therefore cannot be recorded on a student's transcript.
