The Certificate of Achievement in Pre-Health Professions provides the core science courses required for the majority of health professional programs, including, but not limited to nursing, radiologic technology, physician's assistant, respiratory technology, sonography, nuclear medicine, pharmacy, clinical laboratory assistance, occupational therapy, veterinary technology, and other related fields.  Students preparing for the Dental Hygiene program at Oxnard College may complete this Certificate as part of the preparation required for admission to the Dental Hygiene program, but will need additional coursework to meet all of the program prerequisites.  The Certificate of Achievement does not include General Education courses which may be required for admission to some Health Professional Programs, therefore it is recommended that students work with a Counselor in determining if additional coursework is required for their particular program or if the Associate in Science degree in Pre-Health Professions may be more appropriate.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to: 

• Apply the scientific method in order to explain natural phenomena.
• Use acquired knowledge of biology to analyze and interpret scientific data.
• Communicate core concepts central to biology using scientific terminology.
