About the Proficiency Award
Proficiency Awards (PA) are programs with fewer than 16 semester units and are approved by the Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD) Board of Trustees. Content and assessment standards for Proficiency Awards shall ensure that these programs are consistent with the District Colleges’ mission, meet a demonstrated need that leads to employability, are feasible, and adhere to guidelines on academic achievement.
Proficiency Award Requirements
To earn a Proficiency Award, a student must:
- Complete all applicable coursework in a VCCCD Board approved Proficiency Award with a grade of “C” or better or “P” (formerly “CR”) in each course.
- Apply for the Proficiency Award through the appropriate college office granting the award.
Note: Proficiency Awards are not state-approved and therefore cannot be recorded on a student's transcript.
