Nursing Science, Associate in Science
Students who complete the Associate Degree in Nursing Science Program will acquire the knowledge and skills of the five critical competencies of safety/technical, critical thinking/clinical reasoning, communication, responsibility/accountability, and organization/prioritization. These competencies are essential to the function of the Registered Nurse in the direct care of patients.
To earn an Associate in Science Degree with a major in Nursing, students complete prerequisite courses, 36 nursing specific units and General Education Degree Requirements. These major requirements cover the core areas of Nursing, courses necessary for licensure, as well as the students' choice in preparation for the Registered Nurse licensing exam and/or transfer to an institution to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree.
Upon completion of the Nursing Science Program, students will be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN examination leading to licensure as a Registered Nurse. The student must have fulfilled all requirements as defined by the California State Board of Registered Nursing. Completion of the Nursing Science Program does not guarantee licensure as a Registered Nurse.
