The Associate in Science in Film, Television, and Electronic Media for Transfer (FTVE AS-T) is intended for students who plan to complete a bachelor’s degree in a Film, Television, and Electronic Media or “similar” major at a CSU campus. For a current list of what majors (and what options or areas of emphasis within that major) have been designated as “similar” to this degree at each CSU campus, please refer to CSU’s Associate Degree for Transfer Major and Campus Search webpage and seek guidance from an Oxnard College counselor. Students completing this degree are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, although not necessarily to a particular CSU campus or major.

Graduates of Oxnard College’s FTVE program will have had comprehensive, hands-on training in both video and television studio production. Students are trained in the use of camera, sound, lighting, editing and other production tools, as well as screenwriting, and the historical, business and aesthetic background necessary to apply these skills in a variety of program forms for both traditional and cutting-edge media. 

To earn an AS-T in Film, Television, and Electronic Media, students must:

1. Complete a minimum of 60 CSU-transferable semester units including both of the following:
   1. Certified completion of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education Breadth (CSU GE-Breadth) requirements.
   2. A minimum of 18 semester units in the Film, Television, and Electronic Media major as listed in the Oxnard College catalog.
2. Obtain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 in all CSU-transferable coursework.  While a minimum of 2.0 is required for admission, some majors may require a higher GPA. Please consult with a counselor for more information.
3. Obtain a grade of “C” or better or “P” in all courses required in the major. Even though a “pass-no-pass” is allowed (Title 5 section 55063), it is highly recommended that students complete their major courses with a letter grade. 
4. Complete residency requirements. For students in the Ventura County Community College District, a minimum of 12 semester units must be completed in residence within the district.

Students transferring to a CSU campus that accepts the Film, Television, and Electronic Media AS-T will be required to complete no more than 60 units after transfer to earn a bachelor’s degree (unless the major is a designated “high-unit” major at a particular campus).  This degree may not be the best option for students intending to transfer to a particular CSU campus or to a university or college that is not part of the CSU system.  Students should consult with a counselor when planning to complete the degree for more information on university admission and transfer requirements.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to: 

• Effectively communicate information and stories to a target audience, applying a general knowledge of visual storytelling and specific technical skills from their area of specialization.
• Demonstrate critical thinking, research, and analysis skills to understand the trends, terminology, and technology to thrive in the entertainment industry and accomplish professional and personal goals.
• Demonstrate basic trouble shooting skills and the ability to creatively problem-solve throughout the filmmaking process.
• Demonstrate knowledge of historical, legal, and ethical issues, theories and concepts in film history and all aspects of film and media production.
• Demonstrate skills and knowledge to obtain entry-level professional employment in an area of specialization.
• Demonstrate professional-level achievement through multiple projects and a completed industry-standard demo reel or portfolio.
• Demonstrate proficiency in post-production technology and techniques.
• Exhibit sensitivity to diversity and professional responsibility in all areas of film, media and Television.
• Demonstrate writing proficiency appropriate for entry-level professional practice including compelling story and character development and effective pitching strategies.
• Assemble creative teams and work effectively to guide a crew through the pre-production, production and post-production process and the completion of film and media projects.
• Demonstrate effective use of equipment and current technologies appropriate to the entry level of professional practice including working effectively with various cameras, lenses, lighting, audio and accessories.
• Design and execute creative lighting schemes and choices that serve the story.
• Apply principles of composition and camera movement to enhance the story and articulate director’s vision.
