Infant and Toddler Teaching, Certificate of Achievement
The Certificate of Achievement for Infant and Toddler Teaching fulfills the state required specialized coursework to be eligible to work with children from birth to 36 months in a Title 22 licensed early care and education program and goes beyond the minimal requirements. This specialized coursework is in addition to the state required 12 units of initial child development classes currently offered in the Associate Teacher, Certificate of Achievement. This Certificate of Achievement is stackable with the Infant and Toddler Teaching Proficiency Award and allows qualified teachers to be eligible for higher level responsibility within the job market as lead teachers in infant or toddler classrooms. The Certificate of Achievement also consists of transfer classes and coursework that may be applied to related certificates and degrees at Ventura College.
Note: Internship requirements include proof of current negative TB test or chest x-ray and proof of immunity to measles and pertussis. Influenza vaccinations, COVID vaccinations and booster are highly recommended. Live Scan may be required based on placement.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Apply general knowledge of development in the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial domains from conception through age three, including knowledge about typical and atypical development.
- Discuss and apply skills needed in intentional teaching and appropriate expectations consistent with developmentally appropriate practices for infants and toddlers.
- Complete assignments satisfactorily that require principles of curriculum planning and environmental design that are consistent with current best practices and components of the California Early Learning system for Infants and Toddlers.
- Apply professional and ethical standards of behavior in the college classroom or workplace with children, families, colleagues, and coworkers.
