The Introduction to Transitional Kindergarten Teaching, Certificate of Achievement (COA) provides critical developmental knowledge as it applies to classroom teaching of young children and curriculum development. Courses in this COA are foundational to many certificates and degrees at Ventura College and apply to required coursework for multi-credentialed teachers teaching transitional kindergarten, para professionals, and teachers in community-based programs.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Begin to apply general knowledge of development in learning domains from age three through third grade, including knowledge about typical and atypical development.
- Begin to discuss and apply skills needed in intentional teaching consistent with developmentally appropriate practices.
- Complete assignments satisfactorily that require principles of curriculum planning and environmental design that are consistent with current best practices and components of the California Early Learning system for Preschool and CA K-3 standards.
- Begin to apply professional and ethical standards of behavior in the college classroom or workplace with children, families, colleagues, and coworkers.
