The Academic English Foundations, Certificate of Competency program aims to enhance the academic and language skills necessary for students to succeed in transfer-level English courses and professional settings. It is designed for students who wish to improve their academic writing and critical reading skills.
The program targets students seeking to refine their academic English skills, both in writing and reading, and to support their successful completion of English V01A - English Composition.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Identify accurately the main ideas, supporting details, and inferential concepts in college-level texts, and competently analyze and evaluate text structure, content, and rhetoric.
- Write coherent paragraphs comprised of simple, compound, and complex sentences with minimal syntactical errors, organized around a central topic and supported by evidence-based points.
